| The mini skirt has been voted the top fashion item in a poll of shoppers. The poll by top London store Harvey Nichols asked 3,500 shoppers for their top ten best and worst fashion items. The skirt was first invented by designer Andre Coureges and was put on the catwalk by Mary Quant and became a symbol of the swinging sixties. The mini has withstood the test of time with a new generation inspired by Kate Moss adopting it as a key wardrobe staple. Next on the list were jeans, the old favourite little black dress followed by flares, last season’s must have cowboy boots a la Sienna Miller. Poncho’s, trainers and combats and trench coats completed the top ten. The worst fashion crimes included shell suits, puff ball skirts, leg warmers and not pants. Flares, ponchos and platform shoes had the dubious honour of being on both lists. A Harvey Nichols spokesman said that:” The results of the survey show that the British have a strong sense of style and that” The top three items in the list are all undisputed style classics that will be forever in fashion.” |
